Gates
Custom architectural gates designed and fabricated to suit a range of contexts — from estate entries to historic enclosures. Each piece reflects careful consideration of scale, proportion, and material, with fabrication methods ranging from traditional fire joinery to modern precision welding. These gates are built not only as functional thresholds, but as architectural elements integrated into the identity of a site.
This portfolio includes work executed independently and in collaboration with other firms, where I played a direct role in fabrication, design, or preservation.
Charleston Drive Gate – Charleston, South Carolina
Designed for the restoration of a historic Charleston residence, this gate follows traditional local patterns and proportions while incorporating both modern and traditional fabrication methods. The project was part of a larger restoration effort featured on This Old House and highlighted on PBS NewsHour.
The gate was fabricated in mild steel, with forged decorative elements and clean mechanical joinery. It was designed to match the scale, materiality, and historical language of the original ironwork on the property, while meeting modern functional standards for residential use.
Drive Gate – Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
A modern design fabricated using traditional blacksmithing techniques. This gate features clean, repetitive geometry with subtle references to historic Charleston patterns. All components were hot-formed and joined by hand, blending contemporary form with time-honored methods.
